The Vet said I needed to keep exercising because my legs are weak.  I'm learning that on our walks, I need to follow the LADY-not the other way around.  What can I say?  I'm not used to being around someone who is so bossy.  I now weigh 17 pounds.  Our walks are paying off, and I'm now thinner that I have been in years.  The LADY was right about one thing.  Being fit feels good!  I now can jump up on my back legs when I get excited.  I still get treats, so things aren't so bad.  I got watermelon this week.  Don't worry, there weren't any seeds.

I finally had my first bath.  Looks like the LADY needs to worry about her own hair and to not be concerned about my dirty fur.  Theres not much to say about today.  I was told that I was going to get a bath.  I didn't complain or fuss, I just went along with the plan.

Sophie and I feel more relaxed when we are together.  We always have gotten along, but we don't feel like we still need to be very careful.  Last Sunday, we went to Three Dog Bakery to get some more treats.  Riding in the back of the car with her is fun.

We still aren't playing together much.  She said she likes to run when she plays, and she is afraid she will step on me.  We are good friends on our walks and I tell her whenever there is something going on outside that we need to check out.  Sofie tells me when it's almost dinner time.

Yikes, today was pretty rough.  My ears were really clogged up and the Vet worked hard to dig out the junk in my ears.  The LADY said if I had been a boy, she would have named me Tater.  She said you could have grown 'taters from all of the dirt the pulled out of my ears.  Maybe I'll be able to hear better when my ear infection gets better.  But maybe not.  I've been learning to listen to hand signs at home.  I've learned the sign for sit, lets-go-out and for lay down.  We even have a sign for good girl and there's one for my name, too.  The sign for my name is the same as the surfer sign for "hang loose", only you do it upside down, so dogs can see it .  Not being able to hear can make being alone feel extra lonely sometimes.  But don't worry about me, though.  There are worse things than not being able to hear.  I can still use my four paws.  I can smell a treat from ten feet away.  I can see like a hawk so if my hearing never comes back, I'll still be o.k.

I'm starting to get the hang of things here at my new house.  The food is good, but they don't give me much.  At my old place, before I went to the shelter, I would get lots and lots of treats.  But those days are longggg gone.  I'm learning that I shouldn't be underfoot in the kitchen.  I'm also learning that I have to stay in a crate at night.  I don't like this ONE BIT.  I don't know why we can't be together all of the time.

SPECIAL NOTE FROM THE LADY:  Maggie is not reacting to sounds.  We are going to the Vet today to see what is going on with her hearing.  At home, we are trying to teach her that it's o.k. to be away from us sometimes.  We also want her to know that when we do go away, we will always come back for her.  She doesn't believe this yet, but I hope she will learn to relax when we are away from the house or are sleeping in separate rooms.  I'm trying not to cuddle her too much.  I read that cuddling all the time can make little dogs anxious when it's time to spend some time apart.  This is hard since she is incredibly cute.

I've been told that I have a weight problem.  I'm not sure what the problem is, since I see lots of people and other dogs who weigh too much.  When my foster family met me in April, I weighed 27 pounds.  I didn't think that this sounded like much, but on my tippy-toes, I only stand at 12 inches tall.  I am a chihuahua and dachshund mix, so that means I should be very small.  Right now I'm shaped like a bean bag, but I should be a long rectangle.  If I can't get my weight down, I might break my back.  My foster mom was helping me eat right and exercise.  My new family is giving me green beans instead of dog biscuits. They taste great since they were cooked in beef broth.  Sophie likes the green beans, too.  I'm not sure about Sophie yet.  She sleeps a lot.  So far I'm doing great with my weight and I only weigh 18 pounds now.

Last Saturday I was adopted.  I now live with Sophie, a Greyhound and the LADY and the TALL MAN.  It was a happy and a sad day all mixed together.  I got to go to my forever home, but I had to say goodbye to my foster family.  My foster mom was a nice, nice lady who took care of me, and I miss her.  I also miss the other dogs who played with me at my foster house.  But I'm willing to try new things, and the new people and  Sophie seem nice.

The TALL MAN and I nap after we get settled in at home. It was a really long day.
